Increase in Tax 12/28/2008
 

The clock was ticking for the Peoria County Board for determining the size and duration of a tax which will help in increasing the fund of Peoria Riverfront Museum. The board was authorized to ask the voters for imposing sales tax in ¼ percent increments up to 1 percent for public facility purposes.

The committee was waiting for the results of a telephone poll which was especially for gauging public thought on the matter. Though the poll was conducted last week it showed voters might support a tax increase of 25 cents on every $100 of retail purchases. Among 1,000 respondents, 48 percent told that they would support a sales tax increase.57 percent increase in the tax is temporary.
