Welcome to LPN Programs

On this site you will find information about LPN programs, how to become a LPN, and other important information. If you are serious about becoming an LPN then sign up and we’ll send you free information about the whole process, from the decision to do the LPN program online or offline to which of the LPN programs to pick and finally tips on acing NCLEX-PN.

But first, what is an LPN? An LPN is a Licensed Practical Nurse. LPNs are also known as Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) in some states. The job of a LPN is to provide basic patient care like taking blood pressure, checking temperature, giving injections, monitor treatments etc. An LPN cares for patients under the supervision of a physician or Registered Nurse (RN). LPNs are integral to the smooth running of a clinic or hospital.

Right now is a great time to go for one of the LPN programs because there is a great shortage of nurses. The baby boomers are starting to get to the point that they need healthcare support. Their medical needs will put a tremendous strain on the medical system. All in all, by doing one of the LPN programs and becoming an nurse you will not only be entering a great career with options to move up (to an RN or getting a BSN and MSN) but also doing an essential job that makes a difference.

LPN Programs – What are the steps to become an LPN?

You are ready to become an LPN, now what? The first step is to understand the process. The steps to becoming an LPN are not very hard. To begin with you go through one of the year-long LPN programs. Then you take a test known as the National Council Licensure Examination – Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN). Once you finish the NCLEX-PN you are officially an LPN.

You will have to decide what type of LPN programs you want to take (which is discussed in the next section) and with that you will want to choose the state you plan on working and living in.

Many potential candidates are often intimidated by the NCLEX-PN. Even the name seems a bit scary. But there really isn’t that much to worry about. Just make sure you are picking the right one of the LPN programs. For that you will want to do some research; you are already on the right track reading this. The next step is to take a look at the information that is available online. Take a look at the bottom of this page or the panel on the right for more sources.

LPN Programs – What are my options?

To become an LPN you have to go through training, like the LPN programs. Which of the LPN programs you take needs to be approved by your state’s Board of Nursing? The LPN programs consist of one year of training in which you will learn all the various skills necessary to do the job. After your LPN program is complete you will take the NCLEX-PN.

There are two ways to do the LPN programs, online and offline. Both are viable options however it depends on the individual which type of the LPN programs they opt for. If you have a full time job or are a full time student it is probably a good idea to go with one of the online LPN programs. The online LPN programs can be completed at a slower pace and is far more flexible than sitting in a class for hours every day.

Once you have decided if you want to take one of the online LPN programs or offline LPN programs, then you will want to start comparing the various LPN programs on offer. There are many LPN programs and more come up everyday; for the latest information take a look at the panel on the right or below.

LPN Programs News

Ceremony in Cheraw

Students undergoing LPN program at Northeastern Technical College (NETC) were formally recognized by the college at a ceremony in Cheraw. The invocation was delivered by the president of Northeastern Technical College before the ceremony.

Lacey Lee, of Cheraw, president of the 2008 LPN program class also emphasized the role of families during her response speech. She believes that their support has helped them to come to this position. The long hours of studies had taken away time from family but still they helped them to achieve their goal. With the tremendous increase in the shortage pf nurses universities and colleges are trying their best t overcome it. They are participating in the best way they can in curtailing the shortage in hospitals for nurses.

LPN Programs - The Real Problem

Everyone knows there is a nursing shortage. Many people who are doing LPN programs today would not be doing them if it wasn't for the nursing shortage (and the resulting good salary that an LPN gets due to the demand). But what is the core of the problem?

Even though in LPN programs you don't learn about the real world economics or the job market, it is important to understand what is going on in the nursing industry. The problem is that there are not enough nursing instructors for all the nursing students (that is also why it is a good idea to pursue LPN programs online, less bottleneck due to instructors). You have to do an advanced degree to become an instructor, but end up earning less than a practicing nurse.

Anyway, take a look at the LPN programs, you will have to go through them first, before you can think about becoming a nursing instrutor or not, to become an LPN.
